2007 April > JLT's Kids in the Kitchen Program

Over the past month, volunteers from the Junior League of Toronto (JLT) presented a series of workshops to Girls on the Move, a youth program for girls aged 11-14 years, at the St. Alban’s Boys’ and Girls’ Club. The event kicked off the Kids in the Kitchen workshop series with the “Healthy Eating” session where the girls were asked to record what they ate the day before to see how their food choices compared to Canada's Food Guide. They were educated on how to eat a balanced diet and discussed the challenges to eating healthy. The evening wrapped up with a belly dancing lesson. The girls danced around the studio, coloured scarves flying, and moving to the beats – fun exercise! The goal of the series was to provide the girls with a better understanding of how they can make healthy lifestyle choices related to diet and exercise. Junior League of Toronto President, Brenda Hogan, states, “We are pleased to be participating in this project that will create a positive, sustainable impact in the community in the area of healthy lifestyles and nutrition for youth.” For more information, contact Brenda Hogan, President, at (416) 485-4218 or visit www.jlt.org.
