Martin House Dolls held the 2008 Steiff Trunk Show & Sale on Saturday, June 7th. Steiff are the originators of the Teddy Bear. In 1902, Richard Steiff traveled from Germany to the United States and stumbled onto a political cartoon by Clifford K Berryman featuring then president Theodore Roosevelt and a bear cub. From this cartoon, Richard was inspired to create a plush bear. The following year the Teddy Bear was introduced at the World’s Exhibition in St Louis and the rest they say is history. Every year, Steiff creates limited edition pieces some of which are only available in North America. The Trunk Show at Martin House Dolls featured some of these new 2008 limited editions as well as new additions to the regular line of Steiff Teddy Bears and Animals.
